Rua Heliodoro Salgado/Rua Ilha do Príncipe
The historic Mouraria neighborhood is not very far away, but this viewpoint is found off the beaten path, and is not even mentioned in guidebooks. It’s therefore Lisbon’s least known hilltop terrace, but locals know that it offers a beautiful sunset view.
Created in 1950, it has two nondescript entrances — on Rua Heliodoro Salgado (next to number 81) and on Rua Ilha do Príncipe (through a flight of steps next to number 5) — and was cleaned up in 2009, now offering an outdoor café.
The atmosphere is always serene, with the scent and in the shade of pine trees. The panoramic view goes from the waterfront to the Avenidas Novas district, and a tile panel illustrates what can be seen from here, whether you’re sitting at the café or on the pergola.
